In various discussions with TH Real Estate (THRE) – the developers for the new St James development – New Town & Broughton Community Council has been encouraging THRE to provide information on their plans for the major work expected in the next few months. Whilst NTBCC has been generally supportive of the overall development, we have voiced concerns over the inevitable disruption to the surrounding area during the demolition and redevelopment works.

NTBCC very much welcomed the Planning officer's report to recommend refusal and welcomes the Edinburgh Council Committee decision to refuse the planning application (albeit narrowly) to develop the old Royal High School into a hotel. A copy of the decision notice turning the application down can be found here (PDF). NTBCC was surprised that 7 councillors still felt minded to support the application despite the strong recommendation for refusal and the widespread community objection to these proposals. The period for responding has been extended until 1 February 2016.
