The Scottish Government has made 2018 the “Year of Young People” as part of its themed years programme.
The “Year of Young People 2018” aims to provide a platform to showcase the personalities, talents and achievements of Scotland’s young people, stating that :
“It will give young people, aged 8 to 26, new opportunities to influence decision making on issues affecting their lives and be involved in cultural and sporting opportunities across the country.”
In conjunction with this, Edinburgh World Heritage are staging several events in April, linking this to their celebration of “World Heritage Day” or to be more precise, ”The International Day for Monument and Sites” which was established in 1982 by the International Council for Monuments and Sites, or ICOMOS.
The first of these is the World Heritage Skills Workshop for 16 – 24-year olds
“As part of Scotland’s 2018 Year of Young People, Edinburgh World Heritage will be running a workshop to share important heritage-related skills with young people from all backgrounds.
If you are aged between 16 to 24, and live in Edinburgh or the Lothian area, you are invited to join us for a fun skills workshop where you will learn about World Heritage storytelling, multi-media digital production and traditional building skills such as stonemasonry with our team of experts.
Places are limited (but still available) , so please apply soon, as they will allocate spaces on a first-come-first-served basis. This event is free and tickets can be reserved through the EWH website: https://ewh.org.uk/get-involved/events/ or by emailing email@example.com
The second event, available to all is “It’s our heritage, too” – World Heritage Day Event, 18 April
EWHT invite you to join them for an evening event to celebrate the role of young people in caring for and promoting Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site.
“As part of Scotland’s 2018 Year of Young People, and to celebrate World Heritage Day, a group of young people from Edinburgh would like to share with you their vision for our World Heritage Site.
During the event, our young ambassadors will:
- Tell you stories about the World Heritage Site
- Show a series of short films they have produced specially for the day
