Next NTBCC meeting – 11 October 2021 : Registration Details & Summary of Discussion Items

The New Town & Broughton Community Council monthly meeting will be on Monday 11 October 2021 at 7:00pm.

We’re continuing for now with an online event as we’re unaware of any changes to either Edinburgh Council or Scottish Government guidance, the community council feels that it’s still appropriate that this meeting will again be held by video conference, using the Zoom platform. However, along with other coommunity councils, we are looking at options that may allow either 100% in-person meetings or a hybrid model (some attending in person but also with a remote link) but don’t expect this until 2022.

We look forward to as many residents as possible from the New Town & Broughton Community Council area joining us for this.

If interested – please register via Eventbrite here

The full agenda for these meetings will be posted on our website, when available but a precis of discussion topics is shown below.

After a few formalities – the discussion will cover an update to steps taken in regard to the continued concern raised by many residents on the recently approved Council proposals to the ‘Communal Bin Review’ report As many will be aware, despite repeated requests from NTBCC for discussion with the Council’s Waste Department prior to this decision – the proposals were approved by the Council’s Transport & Environment Committee in April without prior notification or engagement with residents, community councils or heritage bodies. As well as the concens raised by residents currently served by Gull Proof bags, the intent is to also cover implications for residents in the wider NTBCC area from this proposal.

The meeting will also cover several recent planning applcations (or Pre-consultations) in the Beaverhall & Logie Green Road area – either applications that have been lodged or those still inviting comments prior to the final application being submitted. Planning will also cover the current applications in East & West Princes Street Gardens as well as George Street for another ‘Underbelly’ Xmas extravaganza & also (hopefully) good news on the old Royal High School.

There will also be a Transport update sumarising the latest from the Trams to Newhaven team.

There are also a number of Public Consultations from the Council – live on the consultation hub – firstly, ‘Short term Lets(STL) Control Areas’ as well as the ‘Use of Public Space for Events & Filming’ – NTBCC have been active in both of these but this is the final opportunity for residents to to register their views on both of these.

The consultations as outlined above are all currently open – the STL consultation closes on 5 November & the ‘Use of Public Spaces…..’ closes on 15 December. All of these consultations can be viewed here & if that’s not enough, there are several others asking for responses….

As well as the current consultation on Short Term Let Control Areas, Licensing will cover any recent applications that may be of interest.

Hopefully that’s enough for the present…..
