Help Required : BELLEVUE CRESCENT : Urban Conservation Coursework Survey

Adapted from an email from Shaheera Pesnani, MSc Architectural Conservation, University of Edinburgh

“We are a group of university students pursuing a MSc in Architectural Conservation at the University of Edinburgh. Since last semester we have been taking a course on Urban Conservation, and as a part of our Urban Conservation coursework, we are analysing the area of Bellevue Crescent, for which we require your help. We believe that the voice of the community is extremely important in any proposed development or recommended urban conservation strategy. The questions in the survey seek to gauge information on demographics, housing, social aspects, place, travel, and any further recommendations you may have.

We are looking for people living in either Bellevue Crescent, Bellevue Rd, Bellevue Pl., Bellevue Terrace, Bellevue St., Cochran Terrace, Cornwallis Pl., E. Claremont St., E. London St., Drummond Place, London St., Melgund Terrace, Rodney St., and Scotland St. to fill out our survey.”

The link to the survey is  HERE

We have been advised that it should not take you more than a minute or two to complete (although having completed the survey, this may be optimistic!).

“We are extremely grateful for your help. Should you have any further information regarding the survey or our project, please feel free to reach out to Shaheera Pesnani s2120046@ed.ac.uk

SGN works in Broughton St – update

(adapted from an email from SGN)

SGN has completed its work to upgrade the gas network in Broughton Street, three weeks ahead of schedule.

Our engineers have been working extended hours and weekends throughout our project in Broughton Street, meaning our work has finished early. We have now moved on to the next stages of our project, in London Street and Forth Street.

The northbound closure of Broughton Street will remain in place as Laing O’Rourke continues its planned works as part of the Together for Edinburgh programme.

SGN Project Manager Matt Ferguson said:

I’d like to thank local business owners, residents and motorists for their continued patience and understanding throughout our time in Broughton Street. We’ll be handing the work site over to contractor Laing O’Rourke this evening.

Broughton Street area gas works: update 22 February

(adapted from an email from SGN)

Our project at Broughton Street is progressing well and the good news is that we should have Broughton Street fully reopened around two weeks ahead of schedule.

From 6am on Tuesday 26 February we will open up Broughton Street from London Street to Albany Street with two-way traffic.

We then plan to fully open the remainder of Broughton Street to two-way traffic by Friday 15 March.

I appreciate that there are separate works being carried out by another contractor at the junctions of York Place and Broughton Street. This area will have to be clear to allow us to open up Broughton Street on the 15 March.

Our engineering team will be working in the area again this weekend.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.

Kind regards

Open Streets Edinburgh consultation: NTBCC’s response

(The following is the text of NTBBC’s submission to CEC’s Open Streets consultation, submitted 2 November 2018)

The New Town and Broughton CC supports the principle of holding vehicle-free Sundays in parts of the city including the city centre.

In the city centre an obvious location would be sections of George Street with Charlotte Square or St Andrew Square, an area which already experiences pedestrianisation at least in part during the Festival. There might have to be a break at Hanover Street to allow for north/south traffic. Continue reading
