Edinburgh Council’s Planning Local Review Body – 2nd April 2025 : Calton Hill Planning Travesty!

As reported in The Herald on 10th April 2025: Fury in Edinburgh New Town over ‘hideous’ home approved by Calton Hill | The Herald

We refer to the proceedings of the Planning Local Review Body (Panel 1) that took place on 2nd April 2025 – specifically as related to agenda item 6.1: 12 Blenheim Place (At Land 45 Metres East Of) – Erection of new 5-bedroom family home on land between Greenside Parish Church and No. 12 Blenheim Place – application no. 24/01889/FUL.

The New Town & Broughton Community Council is profoundly concerned about the lack of forensic rigour in the running of the proceedings, and the seemingly casual way the original decision was overturned, contradicting the Council’s own planning advice.

The relevant webcast segment can be viewed here: Planning Local Review Body (Panel 1) – Wednesday 2 April 2025, 9:30am – Start video at 0:03:14 – City of Edinburgh Council Webcasts

The detailed evidence that was supplied – beyond the neutral stance from Historic Environment Scotland (HES) – is available here, including NTBCC’s representation: 24/01889/FUL | Erection of new 5-bedroom family home on land between Greenside Parish Church and No. 12 Blenheim Place. | Land 45 Metres East Of 12 Blenheim Place Edinburgh

NTBCC will decide about their course of action at their next public meeting on Monday 14th April.

Edinburgh Council Planning Service Update: 24 April 2020

Following on from this information about the SG’s planning guidance on pre-applications, Edinburgh Council’s planning department has emailed community councils about how it is changing services in response to coronavirus.

Dear Community Councillors

We are writing to make you aware of a recent change to our service.

We are adapting our service so that we can support communities and businesses across Edinburgh through this difficult time. Our aim is to boost online public input to planning processes so that we can make and issue decisions which will both help with a swift recovery and a positive future for the city.  To do this we have introduced ways for people to stay informed and comment on planning proposals despite the coronavirus lockdown.

We are now:

  • Starting our publication of applications that we have received since the lockdown commenced in March.
  • Issuing neighbour notification letters by post, with the planning portal open for comments to be made on applications.
