Gasworks in Broughton St area: January 2019

(adapted from an email from Scottish Gas Networks. They have asked to speak about this at NTBCC’s meeting on 10 December.)

At SGN, we manage the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

We’ll shortly be starting work to upgrade the local gas supply network in the Broughton Street area of Edinburgh.

We’re investing £500,000 to upgrade our gas network in Broughton Street. This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe, ensuring a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

We’ve worked closely with the local authorities in planning our work. We understand there’s no ideal time to carry out roadworks, but by carrying out this project in January 2019, we’re minimising future disruption for local residents, businesses and commuters.

Our Project Manager, Matt Ferguson, has confirmed that a lot of planning has gone into this project and we’ll be doing everything we can to limit disruption during our essential project.

We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means once the work has been completed, Broughton and surrounding area homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

Kind regards
