SGN Raeburn Place: temporary traffic lights 2-9 November

Update from SGN about their work in Raeburn Place

Our project in Raeburn Place is continuing to progress well and we're now in the final stages of our work.

To ensure the safety of our engineers and the public, we'll have temporary traffic lights in place in Raeburn Place from Monday 2 November for one week.

We will have completed our project in the area by Monday 9 November and the lights will be removed.

We'd like to say a big thank you to all Stockbridge business owners and residents for your continued patience, support and understanding for the duration of our gas mains replacement work in the area.

Kind regards

Trams to Newhaven – latest newsletter

Here's the latest (text only). There's little in this issue about NTBCC-land but the content may well of interest.

Leith Walk

Site investigation, excavation works and surface water drainage installation is continuing from London Road to Crown Street.

Pilrg Street to Dalmeny Street

This section of works has been handed back to our Infrastructure & Systems Contractor, SFN, who will commence the main tram infrastructure works.

Newhaven

Main tram infrastructure works are continuing in this area.

Ocean Terminal

This area is one of the first section of works that was handed back to our Infrastructure & Systems Contractor, SFN. This has seen the commencement of the main tram infrastructure works in this area. The works are progressing well with the much-anticipated track laying works, scheduled to commence in November 2020. Further updates will follow over the coming weeks on our digital platforms.

Constitution Place to Baltic Street

Works are progressing well in this area with the section of works being handed back to the Infrastructure & Systems Contractor, SFN. The Tower Street junction remains closed with further updates expected to follow in the coming weeks.

Covid-19 cycling and walking emergency response measures and proposed A90 bus priority and cycle improvements scheme

As part of overall emergency measures, Edinburgh Council proposes to introduce new pedestrian and cycle improvements in conjunction with bus priority measures on sections of the A90 corridor from the Dean Bridge to Cramond Brig. The measures proposed have been designed to build upon and enhance existing provisions for people walking, cycling and using public transport, with the principal aims of encouraging and supporting cyclists to travel safely while also prioritising public transport on one of the city’s strategic transport corridors. The measures proposed will re-designate key parts of the road network to help pedestrians and cyclists travel safely while meeting physical distancing requirements.

The proposed designs for the scheme show:

  • introduction of new pedestrian space along the corridor.
  • improvements to junctions and crossing along the corridor to make them safer for cyclists and pedestrians.
  • introduction of sections of new segregated and mandatory cycle lanes.
  • improvements to existing sections of advisory cycle lanes.
  • introduction of sections of new bus lanes.
  • introduction of parking, waiting and loading restrictions where applicable along the corridor.
  • introduction of vehicle filtering in specific locations along the corridor.

Click this thumbnail to see the 24-page full PDF in a new tab or window.

Given the urgency to make the required changes any comments relating to these proposals should be received by 1700hrs on Wednesday 4 November to spacesforpeople@edinburgh.gov.uk.

All feedback will be reviewed and where possible the scheme will be further refined. Feedback will be summarised in an assessment feedback form which will be presented to the Council Incident Management Team for approval. Please note that we will be unable to respond to individual emails.

If the proposal is approved for implementation, publicity will then be undertaken so that local people are aware of the changes. A dedicated inbox will help us to manage any feedback around proposals – spacesforpeople@edinburgh.gov.uk

The introduction of, or changes to, any restrictions will be implemented under emergency delegated decision-making powers using a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order.

NTBCC minutes – Monday 14 September 2020

Roll-out of Latest Stage of the ‘Parking Action Plan’ : Sunday Parking Restrictions Zones 1 – 4

Email received from the Parking Action Plan team on 9 October 2020 (who can be contacted via Parkingactionplan@edinburgh.gov.uk)

While much of the preparatory work is now complete, the final stage is for the Council to seek permission from property owners to place signs on their boundary walls, fences or railings. Letters will be sent out to all properties where this might be possible in the next few days. This approach will help us to reduce the numbers of poles used in the city centre, reducing clutter and making more space for pedestrians.

The implementation itself will involve significant changes to the layout of parking places and, while every effort will be made to reduce potential disruption, the nature of the work will require parking suspensions in many streets in order to allow us to make the required changes. In accordance with our existing protocols, we will give 48 hours’ notice on-street of forthcoming parking suspensions. Further details on the proposed schedule of works and the streets/areas to be affected will soon be available and updated regularly on our website at www.edinburgh.gov.uk/CPZchanges

Currently permit holders in Zones 1-8 have dispensation to park in pay and display bays within their zones, this will continue at least until all the implementation work is complete and this will help to minimise disruption for residents.

Kind Regards

The Parking Development Team
