Next NTBCC meeting – 14 February 2022 : Registration Details & Summary of Draft Agenda

The New Town & Broughton Community Council monthly meeting will be on

Monday 14 February 2022 at 7:00pm

NTBCC’s next meeting will again be held via the Zoom platform on 14th February (despite some adverts suggesting that it  may revert to a face to face meeting).

The full agenda for this meeting will be published soon on our website, https://www.ntbcc.org.uk/meetings/ but can be accessed here in the meantime.

If this is of interest, please register through Eventbrite here to receive the joining instructions & Zoom link.

We look forward to as many residents as possible joining us for this.

What’s going to be discussed ?

After a welcome month lay-off, the February meeting will start with a few necessary formalities & then hopefully (TBC) we will hear from the applicant on their plans for a student development on the former Jewsons site at 72 – 74 Eyre Place prior to their online consultation starting later in February. This should allow residents to gain a general understanding of the proposal (with an opportunity for some Q&A afterwards).

(Please note : this is a pre-consultation with an expected planning application to be submitted in March / April 2022).

This will be followed by discussions on other live planning applications, one being the proposed aparthotel on Forth St / Broughton Street Lane as well as an update to the wider proposals for 5G masts across Edinburgh.

Licensing will cover any recent applications that may be of interest as well as a more general discussion on improvements in communications between the Council’s Licensing Sub-committee & NTBCC.

The transport discussions cover updates to the myriad of transport issues due to the extended Trams to Newhaven works in York Place – including Lothian Bus diversions through the northern New Town. There’s also an update on the recent Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points TRO’s on East London St, India Place & Heriot Row. Finally, under Transport, is the latest news following the recent final notification on the Council’s recently approved Low Emission Zone

Environment includes an update on the wider Communal Bin Hub proposals – covering Phase 3 (which includes the N1 Extended Parking Zone) and an update to the Gull Proof Bag campaign being taken forward by NTBCC along with many local residents’ groups.

Have an issue / concern that you’d want to be discussed ?

This isn’t all that’s on the agenda but it should be more than enough to whet your appetite and fill the 2 hours available comfortably but if there are other issues that local residents are interested in – then always happy to hear these, please contact us via https://www.ntbcc.org.uk/contact/

We’ll then try to make time available under any other business to respond to any other issues or concerns raised.

Trams to Newhaven – Start of Construction Works at York Place – What it means

Adapted from an update on the ‘Trams to Newhaven‘ website dated 3 February

“As part of the next stage of works on the Trams to Newhaven project, the temporary tram stop at York Place will be decommissioned and removed to allow the installation of a crossover linking the existing line with the new route.

To facilitate these works, from 9 February 2022 until April 2022 the tram from Edinburgh Airport will stop at the West End. Once the works at York Place are complete, from April 2022 the tram will then terminate at St Andrew Square until the new stop at Picardy Place becomes operational when the line to Newhaven opens in Spring 2023.”

So – in short – when the (now defined as temporary) York Place stop no longer receives trams as from Wednesday 9 February, trams will terminate at Shandwick Place until April 2022. Then during the period from April 2022 until ‘Spring 2023’ (the official opening date for the Trams to Newhaven extension, seemingly now accepted as June), all trams will terminate at St Andrew Square.

The update includes further information on when this phase of the Construction Work will commence, with fencing being erected to establish the construction site taking place in the early hours of Thursday 10 February 2022.
