Help NTBCC highlight street-cleaning priorities

The City of Edinburgh Council is running its Pride in Our City programme, providing an enhanced cleansing service on a ward-by-ward basis.

NTBCC doesn’t carry out this work ourselves – it’s led by the Council – but we want to make sure your concerns are heard and acted upon where possible. Our role is to represent local views and push for improvements to the public realm – the shared spaces we all use, such as streets, pavements, bin areas, and parks.

To gather these local views, please respond to our survey at https://www.ntbcc.org.uk/hotspot-survey.

The Pride in Our City programme covers:

  • Removal of dog fouling
  • Removal of dumped items
  • Removal of graffiti and stickers
  • Removal of chewing gum
  • Litter picking and sweeping
  • Clearing gullies of all litter and debris, and scraping away weed growth
  • Scraping the topside of the kerb and in between individual kerbs to remove weed growth
  • Removing all weeds from the backline (outside perimeter walls of houses along the pavement)
  • Bagging and removing all weeds and debris once scraped away
  • Clearing around any communal bin areas
  • Graffiti/sticker removal and street washing

We’re asking residents, workers, and visitors to tell us exactly where these problems are most severe in Edinburgh New Town and Broughton so we can share this with the Council’s Neighbourhood Environmental Services team. We have also added a question about dangerous pavements. Continue reading →
