Notification of essential works Bellevue area Edinburgh – 29 July 2019

(adapted from an email from SGN, received 13:35 on 15 July)

I’m writing to let you know as part of the new St James Centre project, and to meet the increased demand on our gas network, we’ll shortly begin work in the Bellevue area of Edinburgh. This essential work will ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply and help us keep the gas flowing safely and reliably for all our customers well into the future.

We’ve worked closely with the local authorities in planning our project which will start on Monday 29 July and take approximately 22 weeks to complete.

To ensure everyone’s safety while we work, some road closures, temporary traffic lights and parking suspensions will be in place at times.

We’ll be carrying out the work over five phases to help minimise disruption. You can see where we’ll be working in the attached leaflet.

During phase one we’ll be working in Dundas Street and Great King Street. For the first two weeks of this phase, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place in Dundas Street. Great King Street will be closed for the full six weeks. There should be no impact on customers’ existing gas supply.

Phase two – approx. 4 weeks

East of Scotland Street Lane and Bellevue Crescent will be closed to motorists.

Phase three – approx. 5 weeks

During phase three, Bellevue and Bellevue Crescent will be closed.

Phase four – approx. 4 weeks

Drummond Place and Scotland Street will be closed for the duration of this phase.

Phase five – approx. 4 weeks

Our final phase of work will take place in Scotland Street and East Scotland Street Lane. Both roads will be closed for the duration.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for motorists during all road closures.

We’ll be posting regular updates on our website https://www.sgn.co.uk/roadworks.Scotland-projects and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.

Please feel free to share this information with your stakeholders, colleagues and anyone else who may be impacted by our work. All local residents are being notified.

If you have any specific enquiries about this project, please call us on 0131 469 1701 during office hours (8am to 4.30pm) or 0800 912 1700 and our customer service team will be happy to help.

I’d like to thank you in advance for your cooperation, support and understanding during this time.

Kind regards

Caroline Lawrie, Stakeholder and Community Manager
