Update from SGN about their work in Raeburn Place

Our project in Raeburn Place is continuing to progress well and we're now in the final stages of our work.

To ensure the safety of our engineers and the public, we'll have temporary traffic lights in place in Raeburn Place from Monday 2 November for one week.

We will have completed our project in the area by Monday 9 November and the lights will be removed.

We'd like to say a big thank you to all Stockbridge business owners and residents for your continued patience, support and understanding for the duration of our gas mains replacement work in the area.

Notification of major gas replacement works: Raeburn Place area, Edinburgh Update 10 April 2020

(copied form an email from SGN, received 17:42 on 2020_04_10)

We’ve been working on the final stages of temporarily reinstating the road surfaces and tidying the sites we’ve been working in. The road in Raeburn Place has been reopened and back to 2-way traffic. The buses are operating the East and West route service.

We will maintain our localised compounds in the area during the suspension of our works.

We will continue to operate the 24/7 National Gas Emergency Service across Scotland during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our engineers will continue to attend properties and make the situation safe, as always. We have extra safety precautions in place to make sure you and our colleagues are protected from catching or spreading the virus. Our engineers will wear protective equipment, including gloves and a mask, this is to keep everyone safe, as well as our colleagues.

We’re committed to keeping our key workers safe, as well as the families we visit, as we respond to gas emergencies. We’ll continue to follow all Government and public health advice on precautionary measures to reduce the risk for our people and our customers, including providing colleagues with guidance on social distancing as well as additional personal protective equipment.

Stay safe and well.

Kind regards

Notification of major gas replacement works: Raeburn Place area, Edinburgh Update 16 March 2020 Update 29 March 2020

(copied from an email from SGN: It furthers the information in this recent NTBCC post.)

I’m writing to you further to my recent email about our ongoing work to upgrade our gas network in Raeburn Place, Stockbridge area, Edinburgh.

We know that during the coronavirus outbreak, our communities will rely on us now more than ever to keep them safe and warm. The safety of our communities and our employees will remain our number one priority in the weeks and months ahead.

Following the latest Government advice to stay at home, we must make changes to our usual ways of working. From Tuesday 24 March, we are only continuing with safety-critical and emergency work.

This means we’ll temporarily suspend our ongoing gas network upgrade in Raeburn Place, Stockbridge area, Edinburgh.

Over the coming days, we’ll wind down all our network upgrade projects in a controlled way to ensure people and sites are safe, and our network is secure.

We will continue to operate the 24/7 National Gas Emergency Service across the south of England and in Scotland during the coronavirus pandemic. Our engineers will continue to attend properties and make the situation safe, as always. We have extra safety precautions in place to make sure our customers and colleagues are protected from catching or spreading the virus.

There’s more information about our coronavirus preparations on our website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus

Thank you for your understanding during these challenging times. I’ll write to you again when we’re able to restart our gas mains replacement project.

Kind regards

Notification of major gas replacement works: Raeburn Place area, Edinburgh Update

(Copied from an email from SGN. NTBCC's web weaver apologies for the late posting of this information)

I’m writing to make you aware of our plans to excavate within St Bernard’s Row, Edinburgh as part of our ongoing project. Due to the size of excavation required it will not be possible for any vehicles to pass our work site and as such no vehicular traffic will gain either access or egress via the St Bernard’s Row entrance to Veitch’s Court. Pedestrian access to Veitch Court at this location will still be fully available.

This operation is scheduled to start Wednesday 18 March for approximately three weeks. Thank you for all the support and understanding we've received whilst carrying out complex engineering work to upgrade our gas network.

Kind regards

Major gas replacement works: Raeburn Place area, Edinburgh – Update Tuesday 10 March 2020

SGN has just sent NTBCC the following update.

Our work in Raeburn Place is still on track and progressing well.

We've been carrying out additional work to our network at the junction of Hamilton Place and Kerr Street due to an emergency. This work is almost complete and the temporary traffic lights in place at the junction will be removed by Monday next week [16 March].

A section of our new plastic pipe has now been inserted in to the old metal pipe in Raeburn Place. Because we've completed our work in the narrowest section of the road, the Lothian Bus service will become available to those travelling eastbound from Tuesday 17 March. The temporary Stockbridge Shuttle service we were providing will run until the evening of 14 March.

Thanks again to Stockbridge residents and business owners for your continued patience and understanding while we complete our essential work.

Kind regards

Caroline

Free Shuttle Bus – Circular Route To / From Raeburn Place

Adapted from an email from Caroline  Lawrie (SGN Stakeholder and Community Manager)

We are contacting the New Town & Community Council & others to update you on the bus services and diversion routes available whilst SGN are working in the Raeburn Place area.

We have been made aware that the standard-sized Lothian buses are now unable to travel safely past the SGN work area, meaning the bus service isn’t running westbound along Comely Bank Road and Raeburn Place.

To ensure that transport is still available westbound along the road as planned, SGN have agreed to supply a free bus service from tomorrow morning, (18 February) which will be available until the work in Raeburn Place is completed.

The Stockbridge Shuttle will run between 8.30am and 5.30pm Tuesday-Saturday and will visit each stop on the route three times an hour.

Please see the map for more information.
